What would you like us to know about you?I am a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma... Born and raised in Ft. Smith, Arkansas...Both my parents were part Cherokee, though only my Fathers side ever documented by enrolling. Neither were ever interested in their Cherokee ancestry or culture.I was the first to look deeper into the culture and heritage and found a comfort in knowing my roots came from this continent as much as from Europe. A Little About Myself, Regina Gayle Thompson Ienrolled ina basket weaving class at the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah back in 2008. It was a two day class by Bessie Russell, Cherokee Nation Treasure. She saw the willingness in my heart to learn and the two day class was an overwhelming challenge. She took me into her home and taught me. All she asked in return was that I teach and keep making baskets. I continue to do so. The Cherokee double wall baskets are very unique.
